SS08 PRESS RELEASE

The connection between David Bowie and the sultry Charlotte Rampling is not immediately obvious. But both have had their eccentric moments. Sara Berman, a label that does care for anything dull, has seized their joie de vivre and translated it into wild shirts, leopard print dresses and several other jaw dropping pieces for Spring Summer 2008.

The gold collarless jacket and Lurex dresses are pure Bowie. It’s not often you can link a man with a dress, but he possesses the type of wild sartorial direction only dreams are made of. Like eccentricity, glamour unites Rampling and Bowie, which is useful considering this collection is about bringing a little razzle dazzle to your daylight hours. Cardigans boast large brassy buttons and Sara Berman’s trademark leopard print is a shiny version of its former self - but don’t let that stop you wearing it on your daily commute. This collection is about having fun. Which is lucky considering the number of frills and frippery involved. Who would want a pair of plain trousers when they can wear Sara Berman’s bow bottom ones? Flattering on the leg and able to add some amusing femininity to your derriere, they are a girls’ best friend.

Interesting twists like these continue throughout the collection. The printed silk shell top, for example, looks deceivingly normal from the front, but it turn around and there is a dramatic looped together effect that lets an inviting amount of skin see the light. If you’re after something seriously daring there is also a Little Black Dress – well, every good collection should have one. It is ruched around the hips, dips low at the front and is not dissimilar to the tiny slips made famous by the Supermodels a decade ago. The hot pink and black lace dress has a similar Nineties vibe and will certainly get you noticed.

For the less theatrical among us, Sara Berman also plays with boyish tailoring. The wide board shorts are not meant for surfing, but they have a relaxed feel that is perfect for sticky days in the city. The pleat-front trousers, another Sara Berman staple, come in crisp white cotton for when looking like you live on the French Riviera is top of your agenda. But when you’re back on British soil you might want to try the stripy blouse. Well the clothes are sorted, now lets just hope the sun puts its hat on.
